Tell us what you did before image consultancy.
I am originally from the UK, as a trained Hairdresser I worked in the hair salon of a boutique day spa and health club for many years before moving to Australia. After a few years of traveling, we settled in SE Queensland, started a family, and were proud to be a stay-at-home mum.
What made you choose to become an image consultant? What drew you to it?
I have loved working over the years in the hair industry but always felt something was missing but could never think what it might be until I read a book that mentioned Colour Analysis which took me back to 10 years before when I had my ‘Colours done’ the first time.
Light bulb moment for me. I began my research to become a consultant to then find the Academy of Professional Image where I started to follow my dream.
What made you decide that it was time to do your training and take up this new career?
Becoming a mum is too easy to push opportunities to the side in hope to do it later. When my middle child was just six months old I came across AOPI, it was a now or never moment for me.
It has been a juggle and I’ve taken small steps but have always been determined to find ‘A job I love so that I never work again’ and I’ve certainly found that!
What are you passionate about?
I’m passionate about colour! Colour builds confidence! I’m a big believer in the effect colour can have on someone not just with how they look but self-confidence and the difference it makes to their day.
Who do you most enjoy working with? How do you love to help them?
I enjoy working with ladies that feel they may have lost their way with their own style especially becoming a mum and being time-poor, body shape may have changed, and lifestyle and budget are different from what it once was. Being able to share my knowledge and own experiences of how simple and effective everyday dressing can be when understanding colour palettes that harmonise with their natural colouring.
How does having a good image help people in their lives?
As well as being the biggest personal boost it helps to build a wardrobe that reflects who they are and for the lifestyle, they lead.
Dressing each day is easy and helps them to feel comfortable and confident no matter what the occasion.
How can you help people create a more impactful and relevant image for themselves?
Every one of us is unique, in how we look and our needs so for me listening and having a good understanding of the client’s lifestyle and desires are important.
