Gulinka Shadinuowa

Tell us what you did before image consultancy.

I started my career in finance and management consulting, before moving into commercial finance, spending most of my career in FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods), largely in food retail. It was a whole different life in numbers and spreadsheets.

What made you choose to become an image consultant? What drew you to it?

I worked in Bangkok for a large FMCG client, and it was a fly-in-fly-out role, which meant I lived out of a suitcase for twelve months. Somewhere in that year of the same handful of outfits, I completely lost my sense of style. When I came back to Melbourne, I decided to find it again.

I love self-development, so I decided to learn the skill of personal style myself, and I fell completely in love with the transformation. Rediscovering my style changed how I felt, how I showed up and how I moved through the world. I knew almost straight away that this was what I wanted to do for others.

What made you decide it was time to do your training and take up this new career?

Colour and which colours suit was the question I was constantly receiving in my style consultations. One of the biggest challenges for clients was finding the colours that suit them, then mixing and matching those colours together. I knew colour analysis was going to be incredibly helpful for my clients and would inspire them to experiment more with colour.

What are you passionate about?

Helping people feel like the best version of themselves, and finding the joy in getting dressed again. So many of us feel overwhelmed by our wardrobes and disconnected from our style, and I love guiding people back to feeling confident and completely themselves in what they are wearing.

Who do you most enjoy working with? How do you love to help them?

I love working with everyone to help them find their style, but there’s something special about helping someone who feels stuck, because I’ve been there myself. When you’re standing in front of a full wardrobe with nothing to wear, it can feel like there’s no way out. There always is. Helping someone create a wardrobe that truly works for them and getting to be part of their transformation is the most rewarding feeling.

How does having a good image help people in their lives?

It gives you self-confidence and the freedom of creative expression. It allows you to be yourself and when you feel like yourself, everything opens up. I’ve seen it help people advance in their careers, step into new chapters and simply move through their days feeling good in their own skin. It’s amazing what shifts when you feel confident in how you show up.

How can you help people create a more impactful and relevant image for themselves?

By helping them find the pieces they truly feel good in and that work with their lifestyle. Pieces they genuinely love, that feel like them. It’s not about more clothes or chasing trends; it’s about a wardrobe that’s intentional, that works for your real life and reflects who you are.
